A few weeks ago I was absolutely thrilled to win a Glossy Box summer nail art competition with my floral Cath Kidston inspired nail design (check out my tutorial here). My prize was this Corrupted Neon Manicure kit in Tropicana from Ciate, which I'd seen around and was very keen to try.
The kit comes with a neon orange base colour, the neon glitter, a top coat and a handy tray for catching the excess glitter.

You start by applying your usual clear base coat, followed by 2 thick coats of the orange polish. Surprisingly (given my large stash of nail polish) this was actually my first time using Ciate. I was very impressed with how well it applies; not streaky at all with fairly decent coverage. It only took a couple of strokes to coat each nail.

The instructions then say to apply the glitter to wet varnish, I wasn't sure if they meant the 2nd coat of orange or an entirely new coat, so I applied it to the 2nd coat. The glitter holds on to the varnish well but it's not quite as opaque as I'd expected so next time I'll probably apply a third coat of colour before adding the glitter.

The orange glitter has a subtle iridescent shine to it, but this seemed to disappear after applying the supplied clear top coat, which also made the whole neon colour a bit darker. Next time I think I'll leave it without a top coat to see how well it holds as I think I was more partial to the fresh glitter look. With the top coat, the effect is very similar to that of the textured/liquid sand trend going around the nail varnish world currently.

The tray is hugely useful for cleaning up afterwards and it's relatively painless using it to get almost all of the excess glitter back in the bottle. There was very little waste. As you can imagine, removing it took a fair bit of acetone soaking, as with most glitter polishes, but it did come off in the end.

You can purchase this Corrupted Neon kit from Ciate for £18.00 where it comes in Tropicana (orange), Foam Party (blue), Megaphone (yellow) and Shout Out (pink). Have you tried any of the Ciate Corrupted Neon Range? What colour did you go for? Let me know!
