Review: Mavala Color-Matt Top Coat

I've always been a big fan of matte nails, so I was very happy to receive this top coat. In the past I've used a variety of different matte varnishes, some where the colour itself is matte, others where it's just a top coat. Personally I prefer applying it as a top coat as it's more versatile and I found matte colour tended to dry out in the bottle quite quickly.

One key quality of a good matte coat is to stay that way throughout wear. Some other brands I've tried were perfectly shiny by the end of the day - no good! This top coat by Mavala however did stay matte and did not easily pick up shine from oils/make up etc.

It applied easily and smoothly although took a little while to dry (perhaps a little longer than some other mattes I own) but the result was a nice velvet matte that I will definitely continue to use. It did chip a little during the day, but I've often found this to be one of the downsides of matte polish. I happened to be wearing some of Models Own scented polish and was pleased to find the scent remained through this Mavala polish, usually top coats mask this.

(Disclosure: Product was a PR sample)
