Review: GlamGlow YouthMud Mask

Exfoliate, fine lines, acne, radiant, glowing

It's always great fun to try out a product with so many beauty awards and GlamGlow's YouthMud face mask is plastered in them, including:

  • Beauty Shortlist 2013: Best Face Mask
  • Beauty Choice Awards 2012: Best Exfoliating Mask
  • Neiman Marcus Beauty Awards: Quick Fixes & Formulas
  • URBAN RETREAT at Harrods: Bestseller
  • Elle Magazine: No. 1 Beauty Obsession

Beauty Choice Product Winner Award New Beauty 2013

So as you can see, it's a hugely popular product!

  • The benefits the GlamGlow YouthMud Mask claim to have includes:
  • Skin Collagen Synthesis for a noticeable 3 day glow
  • Leaves skin noticeably soft, smooth and radiant
  • Multi-level resurfacing exfoliation
  • Penetrates into the deepest layers of the skin to soften fine lines and wrinkles
  • Tightens, tones and lifts the skin
  • Relives dark circles and minimises pores
  • Absorbs impurities without removing natural oils
  • Suitable for all skin types
  • Contains no artificial colours or fragrances and is 99% paraben-free, cruelty-free, and suitable for vegans

Infact it seems to cover pretty much any skin complaint your face may have! But does it live up to the hype and its many claims?

Hello Sexy

Firstly I have to comment that the packaging is absolutely gorgeous; a rich black matte with silver text and accents. It doesn't just end there, opening the lid reveals "Hello sexy" - a nice touch! The packaging is however, a fair bit bigger than the 15ml jar of product inside. The jar really is pretty tiny, but again beautifully designed to match the outer packaging.

paraben-free, cruelty-free, and suitable for vegans

The mask itself is very clay like in appearance and texture. One thing I quite like about it is that it has little bits of its ingredients actually visible within the mask, so it feels like it's quite a natural product rather than some synthetic liquid.

wrinkles, fine lines, anti-aging

Fortunately (given the size of my tin!) you don't have to use much of this product to cover your face and you only need a very fine layer of it. I do experience quite an unpleasant tingling/burning on my face when the mask is on, but nothing that leaves a mark or a red face luckily! But with this in mind, I really can't imagine this product being that suitable for those with particularly sensitive skin.

It's very easy to tell when this mask has dried as it turns to an obviously dried pale grey. This happens quite quickly and I really like that it does this, I hate masks that stay quite moist and uncomfortable for the entire time you have them on. As it dries you can definitely feel a tightening effect.

Now, on to the most important bit; the results!

It does leave my skin refreshed and radiant and I saw a noticable difference on some of my most stubborn pores. Washing it off provides good exfoliation too and once I'm finished, I'm left with a very fresh-faced feeling. However I don't notice any difference with reliving dark circles at all. I don't really have any lines or wrinkles to test that element of the mask.

So, would I buy it again? Unfortunately I have to say probably not at full price. It's a nice mask, I'd even consider it my favourite at the moment, but that doesn't justify the price-tag for me.

John and Ginger currently have a much bigger pot of GlamGlow's YouthMud on sale at £40 for 50ml which would definitely give you way more product for your money.

Have you tried GlamGlow's YouthMud Mask? What did you think?

(Disclosure: I both purchased this product myself and received a PR sample)

  1. I have a small sample packet of this I have been hanging onto for months. I have really sensitive skin so have been afraid to try it. Glad I read your review first! And seriously? That outer box was WAY too big and misleading. I hate when they do that!

    1. Yeah it was disappointing, particularly as the box actually doesn't state the amount of product in ml (I searched for a minute last night and couldn't see it anywhere) so I didn't really know what I was getting when I purchased it in a store. The way it's held in place makes it feel like the jar fills the whole box. I believe that the bigger version I've linked to is MUCH bigger than the small one I own though.

Maybe try a bit of the sample first before using the whole sachet?
