Review: Redken Extreme Hair Care Range

Redken are renowned for creating quality hair care products, but I owned very little of their range before I decided to invest in the entire Extreme range, created specifically for distressed and damaged hair. As a serial hair damager, guilty of bleaching and straightening regularly I thought this could be a worthwhile purchase! Included was: Redken Extreme Shampoo, Conditioner, Strength Builder Masque, CAT Protein Treatment and Anti-Snap leave-in treatment.

Redken Extreme Shampoo

Whilst hair quality mainly comes down to the conditioner/masque you use after using shampoo, it's important to get a shampoo that really cleans your hair allowing the products you apply afterwards to do their work. With this shampoo, a little goes a long way and it lathers really well. It's a fairly conditioning shampoo, so it doesn't leave you with rough, tangled hair like some other shampoos.

Redken Extreme Conditioner

If I have the time, I'll always opt in for a masque instead of conditioner, but this is a great quick solution for silky smooth hair. I'll always use this if I'm in a rush but still want glossy, healthy hair. Again a little goes a long way with this product.

Redken Extreme Strength Builder Masque

The masque is my favourite product in the Extreme range, leaving my hair feeling well conditioned. This tub has lasted me ages. I tend to leave it in for 10-30 minutes whenever possible and always get great results. It's definitely going to be regular in my hair care routine.

Redken Extreme CAT Protein Treatment

You apply this treatment in-between washing and conditioning your hair. I'm not that fond on it as I'm not sure I've ever noticed any results from it. It's also very difficult to apply, it's a clear liquid spray with the same consistency and texture as water, making it really hard to tell how well you've distributed it in your hair, so I probably end up adding too much of it to compensate for that. I definitely don't want to do that, as using too much protein with your hair can result in it being more prone to breakage! If, like me, your hair snaps quite easily when it's wet (rather than stretching) then I wouldn't recommend this product as you likely need more moisture rather than protein.

Redken Extreme Anti-Snap

I'm not convinced on this product either way. I think it helps protect my hair, but it certainly doesn't give it any shine, it leaves my hair feeling a bit lifeless and dull. I now apply it with Orofluido Hair Elixir to give me the silky shine I desire from my hair. I think I'll keep using it, but only in small amounts on the the very ends of my hair.

So overall, I would definitely recommend purchasing the shampoo, conditioner and masque but I don't think I'll repurchase the CAT Protein or Anti-snap and instead try to seek out some alternatives that work better for me. Any suggestions? :)

My favourite place to pick up these Redken products are at LookFantastic.com who often have Redken promotions and also offer a range of multi-packs, so you can get some really good savings.

Thanks for reading!
